Isabelle von Althen, MD Honored for Excellence in Gastroenterology

Stony Brook, NY, August 31, 2009 /Cancer PR News/ -- Isabelle von Althen, MD has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, colon cancer screening and colonoscopy and endoscopy procedures with a special interest in women's gastrointestinal health.
Originally from Canada, Isabelle von Althen, MD began her clinical practice in 1987. Board certified in Internal Medicine-Gastroenterology, she specializes in providing colon cancer screenings, colonoscopies, endoscopies, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and treating gallbladder and inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. von Althen worked for Stony Brook University Hospital from 2001 to 2005 and ran a private practice for the following three years. In March of 2008, she returned to Stony Brook University Hospital to teach gastroenterology fellows. She attributes her success to her personal drive, excellent training, and the support she received from colleagues and mentors.
Dr. Von Althen received her medical degree from the University of Ottawa. She then completed her gastroenterology residency/fellowship programs at Toronto General Hospital, St. Michael's Hospital and Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada. She is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In her spare time, she volunteers with various free clinics offered through Stony Brook University Hospital.
